Using a thin flexible catheter, the embryos are carefully flushed through the vagina and cervix into the uterus.
After the embryo transfer, the patient rests on her back for a few minutes, and afterwards she can go home.
After the embryo transfer, the embryo/embryos must implant themselves in the uterus. This process can’t be forced or actively helped, but you should try to force up the best possible conditions, it should not be interrupted (unfavourable conditions are: smoking, overstretching the body and jerky movements eg. by golf, tennis, squash etc).
Precise details will be given on how to take the medication, directly after the embryo transfer. The corpus luteum function will be supported with hormones, (progesterone suppositories, utrogestan vaginal tablets, cyclagest vaginal tablets, Duphaston tablets, proluten injections etc) which in all cases should be continued until the pregnancy test is made. If the pregnancy test is positive (and after consultation with the doctor) the medication must be continued. If the pregnancy test is negative, the intake of medication is stopped. Details will be given out when the embryo transfer is performed. If you are not sure about the procedures, please do not hesitate to call us (also see - Therapy contract, Therapy plan).
If problems arise eg. when the abdomen is bloated because of hyperstimulation, when you have fever or any other disturbing problems, we recommend that you contact the doctor that referred you to IVF immediately, or that you go to the hospital.
If any of these symptoms appear when HCG (Pregnyl, Profasi, Choragon, Ovitrelle) is being given after the embryo transfer, then the injection should not be given, as it will increase the symptoms.
The earliest proof of pregnancy can be 12 days after embryo transfer. A blood (serum) test for beta HCG must be done. If the result is over 20microliter/ml, an early pregnancy is confirmed. The beta HCG can also be measured in urine 14 days after the embryo transfer. The date for the pregnancy test will be given at the consultation after the embryo transfer. A pregnancy test should be done even when bleeding occurs. There may still be a possibility of pregnancy, or a tubal pregnancy ( this occurs if the embryo embeds itself in the fallopian tube). That is why you have to follow the instructions exactly.
Our team is thankful for the information concerning your pregnancy test.
