AH (Assisted Hatching):
Opening the egg cell (zona pellucida) with the help of fine glass pipettes, laser technology or chemical methods.
 
Blastocyst: Embryo 5 - 6 days after fertilization.
 
Follicle Stimulation:
To achieve the development of multiple follicles with the help of hormone injections
 
GIFT (Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer):
Eggs and sperm (gametes), or early embryos (zygotes) are transferred to the fallopian tube. This is performed by abdominoscopy under general anaesthetic, provided that the fallopian tubes are open. ( This is an old method, and rarely applied nowadays)
 
ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection):
A single sperm is injected into the cytoplasm (egg interior = egg white)
 
Insemination:
When the sperm count and/or motility are low, sperm can be concentrated with the help of special laboratory methods, and placed in the uterus at ovulation time.
 
MESA (Microsurgical Epididymal Sperm Aspiration)
If there is no sperm in the ejaculate, it can be retrieved surgically from the epididymis.
 
TESE (Testicular Sperm Extraction)
If no sperm can be found in the epididymis, it can be taken  surgically directly from the testis.  
 
PID (Pre Implantation Diagnosis):
Examination of the embryo before its transfer to the uterus.
 
PZD (Pre Zone Dissection):
Partial opening of the egg covering (zona pellucida) using fine glass pipettes, to ease the penetration of the sperm.
 
Sperm Donation:
Donor sperm is used for fertilization.
 
Egg Donation:
Using eggs from another woman to obtain a pregnancy.
 
Tubal Surgery:
Specialized microsurgery may be required on the Fallopian tubes to re-establish their normal function.
